Celeberties flee from fire

The bush fires in California reached Los Angeles. About 10,000 people fled their homes after the fire sprang up late on Friday. Devastating bush fires were sweeping across California last night, burning up a mile of land every hour.
The fire began on Thursday, destroying million-dollar homes and leaving the landscape charred for miles.
More than 5,000 homes in the celebrity enclave of Montecito, where Rob Lowe, Jeff Bridges and Oprah Winfrey live, were evacuated on Friday.
Many residents evacuated their homes, but some chose to stay and try to protect their property. More than 1,000 firemen are still trying to control the blazes. The strong winds have made it very difficult for water-bombing helicopters and aircraft fighting the fire in the hilly area.
One elderly man has died and 13 people have been injured, with state governor Arnold Schwarzenegger declaring a state of emergency.
On a given moment flames surrounded Olive View Medical Center, knocking out electricity and forcing hospital staff to evacuate the patients. There were some fears last night that fires could hit the main power lines to LA.
My opinion
A big disadvantage when living in a area surrounded by bushes is that your not safe when there’s a fire. Especially when it has been dry for months before. Almost every year there are some huge bush fires somewhere. I always wondering how the fire is getting started. Should it began naturally for example by the sun or should perhaps some wacko fire it up deliberately. I remember once we had a fishbowl on the table. Then on a day a black burned stripe was on the table. My parents thought that I was been busy again. But it wasn’t me that burned the table. It was the sun. Yes the sun, that shined trough the fishbowl and a bundled light spot was concentrated on the table. How scary is that!
As far as my knowledge goes, I estimate the chance that someone has light it up over 70%.

Ferdy has a good point I think, but it is not a solution or anything. There are people who don’t want to live in a city, where should they live, in a desert maybe? I think they should isolate their homes, there are solutions for it. I’m happy that you are still alive Ferdy, from your fire adventure.
