According to new government figures, the number of teenagers carrying knives has been decreased by more than half. 105,000 young people were searched by officers from 10 forces in England. In October, one out of 65 carried a knife. In June it was one out of 35. the number of deaths in this period also fell with 17%. A particular problem is that knife carriers are getting younger. In the UK there were 34 teenagers died from stab wounds last year with 23 of those in London.
my opinion:
I think it’s a good thing that fewer teens carry a knife. It shows that people feel safer. Some people feel safer when they carry a knife. They carry a knife with the thought to use it if the are in trouble. In a one on one fight a knife can give protection (if you know how to handle it) but when there are more than 2 against you it will be different because you can stab only one person at the time. But in this way, carrying a knife can lead into a huge catastrophe. The only way to prevent such things is to make sure that no one is carrying a knife (or a weapon) anymore. They should focus on younger people and sustain the actions taken so far with more police on every street.

I think that children are also less aware of the consequences of using a knife.. They can't think rational like most adults can, I think kids don't think about their furure when they commit such actions. Another thing is that on television and in games it seems quite normal to kids to hurt somebody with weapons, but I think that's another discussion.
